New Post: PRAWN & RASPBERRY SPRING SALAD! It’s light, lean, nutritious & also works as a great post workout meal. For the piece de resistance, I’ve added some fresh, plump, juicy raspberries from BerryWorld! The low GI sweetness of these little red cones compliments the crunchy textures and savoury flavours of the broader dish fabulously, & overall makes it taste fresher & lighter. Here’s a little video featuring ‘in the life of’…. me(!) centered around running. From the minute I leave my house in the morning I try to walk fast where possible – it’s great cardio, low impact, a full body workout & strong for toasting calories! Given that most of my day is spent on my feet, wearing the right trainers is super important. Staying at the @corinthialondon and just had an exceptional evaluation session at their fitness facility. We know the many benefits of squats (functional, builds strength, targets leg muscles & core) - however, how do you know whether you're doing them right? They're possibly more complex than you think requiring coordination, mobility & stability. Here's a fun little self-assessment, using a bar of sorts, which you can do at home to spot your strengths & potential improvements. It's a good tool to assess your functional & structural movement. It's a mobility drill mainly showcasing tightness in your body. Perform the squat as you would normally, only with your hands above you, holding the bar. In an ideal world you're aiming for an upright torso & not to lean forward too much; A 'flat back' (obviously you naturally have a curve) but no undue rounding; A good amount of depth; And for your heels to stay flat on the floor. Additional, you want to avoid your knees moving beyond your feet. When I did it I found my back was leaning forward. By elevating my heels onto a platform thereby releasing tension in my ankles I was able to lift my chest & straighten my back - suggesting tight ankles &/or tight hip flexors. It creates some 'helpful' mobility to allow you to achieve proper 'dorsiflexion'. - why not try it & see where there's room for improvement with your own squat?!

'Killer Kale salad' - uses but a handful of ingredients, delivering delicious flavour, punchy crunch & is super filling! Quick & easy - perfect solo but also lovely to serve for family & friends. So many options to change the salad - add sweet po/butternut squash/quinoa - raisins or fresh fruit for sweetness! 150g of baby kale (remove the stems) Olive oil 3cups of mixed mushrooms (shiitake, oyster, chanterelle, porcini, etc.) trimmed of stems & thinly sliced 1 thinly sliced shallot 3tbsp. Honey 3tbsp. vinegar 2tsp. mustard Goat/feta cheese Pinch of pink salt & pepper 1. In a pan, heat the mushrooms until they are golden 2. Add the shallots until soft (~3 min) 3. Add salt & pepper. Dressing: whisk together olive oil, vinegar, mustard, & honey. Season with a little salt & pepper. Pour the dressing over the kale. Sprinkle some goat cheese, & serve! #fitin3 #fitnessontoast #salad #healthylunch

On the blog today - MONUMENTAL LENTIL SOUP!!! This quick & easy lentil soup recipe will become your go-to warming dish which is packed with protein, is homely, comforting, & delivers all the nutrients you need to battle winter blues! All you need is: 2 tbsp. olive oil, 1 yellow onion, 3 garlic cloves 1 cup (c. 200g) uncooked red lentils, 2-3 tbsp. ground cumin, 1 carrot, 1 cube vegetable stock, 5cups of water, 1 tsp chili 1 lemon Start by grating the carrot. Peel, chop and fry the onion or until soft. Add the shredded carrots & finely chopped/ pressed garlic to the onion. Rinse & add the lentils for a few minutes to allow them to roast ever so slightly before adding water. Boil the water and add it alongside the vegetable stock. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the lentils are soft. Using a hand blender, blend half the soup. I prefer the soup not to be completely smooth, with a little rough texture helping to add to the heartiness of it. Serve piping hot, drizzle some fresh lemon on top & sprinkle some sunflower seeds for added crunch & textural variation! Bon Appetit! Did you know meditation is said to improve your memory?Aside from that benefits include deep relaxation ‍♂️ which promotes a host of beneficial chemical & neural processes in the body, including a slower heart rate ️ , a shallower respiratory rate, reduced blood lactate, less muscular tension, more efficient gas exchange in the lungs, lower cortisol & adrenal levels… to name but a few. Sea bass on a bed of wild rice & grilled vegetables (incl. butternut squash & asparagus). The Sea bass is stunning to behold, as well as a great source of lean protein. The wild rice provides a wonderful texture & a good amount of complex carbohydrates to keep you going! - a filling lunch/dinner! - Heat the frying pan, pop the fillet in the pan (skin side down) & fry for 2-3minutes. Then drizzle some olive oil + sprinkle salt & pepper and then cook under the (preheated) grill for about 4minutes. Squeeze some lemon & devour!
